In case this shows up as written by Rea, it wasn't. It was written by me - Candice Jorgesen.
I'm currently sitting in the conference room, with our Glory (camp baby), Claire (Out trip director) and David (Sr 2 director). This summer has been full of spending time with fantastic people who love God and love our baby. I’m very thankful we’ve been out as part of the Head Counselor team with Ginny. Some weeks have been more difficult than others for sure as we experience life in close Christian community, admonish and correct counselors, and grow together as a family. It has often been hard to know what impact we are really making, but we’ve also been able to frequently watch God at work and people being changed as the summer has progressed. I know Peter and I have also been blessed to have past campers and PITs return as staff this year.
Being out here has given me a different appreciation for full time ministry, giving things up to Jesus, and living simply (by that I mean without all the distractions of being in the city). I hope to have the perspectives I have learned and remembered continue with me as we go home. This last week we’ve talked lots about media and the influence of media in our lives, and hit some hard topics and subjects with the kids. The challenge of the speaker today was to go home knowing that Satan is going to try and deter us from the freedom we’ve found this week. She gave a catch-line of “God + me = the majority.” It reminds me of the realities of abiding in Christ (John 15) to bear fruit, and that no matter how difficult or along our battles might seem, with Him we have victory in life.
In a couple of days we will all go home and leave the permanent staff here in peace and quiet (maybe – you never know what God has up his sleeve – probably peace, maybe not quiet???). Although it’s always a little bit sad to leave, I’m excited to have some of the staff move up to Edmonton where we all get to continue living this following of Jesus together.
