A note from Sandy:

My role at camp is called, “Volunteer Coordinator”. They say that includes: recruiting, training and supporting volunteers. I guess that kind of tells you what I do – but really, what I find myself more involved in is “coordinating”. It is kind of funny because I have never thought of myself as a “recruiter”, and all the “staff training” stuff I leave in another’s capable hands, to do – so that leaves me with role of “supporting staff”. Now that is what I love to do!!

From my perspective, God is doing the “recruiting” or “calling” – I can do what I can to let people know what the needs are – but God is the one who is prompting hearts to be involved. When it comes right down to it – I really don’t want the job of “recruiting” because then I might be tempted to turn to competitive tactics of the corporate world; things like “why we are better than the next guy”, or arm twisting type bullying, or … you fill in the blanks. Believe me - I am simply not interested in any of that!! “Recruiting” is not my thing!!

However, it brings incredible joy and overwhelming encouragement to my heart when God leads people to volunteer and I have the privilege of writing their name down on my big white board and guiding or directing them to the role best suited to their gifts and skills.

The white board that we have in our board room currently has a 2-fold purpose.

1. It helps me keep track of who is coming and what roles still need to be filled for each camp
2. It gives me (and all of us in the office) a daily reminder of the above and encourages us to pray for these things as we go about our work throughout the day.

Now, we are attempting to combine the white board tool with the internet tool, for an even greater impact: here it is for all to see!! Our prayer is that by making this available to you it will:

1. Let you see all the camp programs we are offering.
2. Keep you informed and current of staffing needs for each of those camps.
3. Encourage you to pray for the individuals who are confirmed for coming, but also for the spots that are yet to be filled.
4. Thrill your heart to praise God as you see the board turn from white to red!!
5. Help you plan for the summer, if you are interested in coming to camp.

Here is how it works:

• The roles required for each camp are listed vertically on the left hand side.
• Each camp that we offer is listed across the top.
• Names written in RED are the people who have confirmed for coming for a specific role.
• The numbers written in BLUE with a p beside it (ie: 1.p) indicate that we have someone pending for that role. (someone thinking/praying about coming, but is not yet committed)
• The numbers written in GREEN with an i beside it (ie: 1.i) indicates that we have invited someone for that role.
• When someone commits to coming – the green or blue number will change to their name in red
• If you find yourself interested in volunteering for a role, contact us – we’d love to hear from you! I will make sure you get the appropriate paperwork to complete! Yay for paperwork!!
